The Forest Friends Incredible Adventure
Roger Wellington Nason
This is the first full story I ever actually put down into words. I did this one to read to my kids. They were both quite young at the time.
Danny, a young frog, is captured by a young boy. Now Zachary, Danny’s brother, and his friends, Sammy the Salamander, Wally the Squirrel, and Tyler the Mouse must find a way to traverse the treacherous forest to the realm of the humans to rescue Danny.
Will they make it in time or will Danny be somebody’s science experiment?
“It started like most any other day in the forest. The early morning mist clung to the leaves, and the fog hugged the ground.
The five woodland friends, Sammy the Salamander, Wally the Squirrel, Tyler the Mouse, and brothers Zachary and Danny the Frogs, set out for a morning of playing at the Circle of Water. They began to play their usual games like hide and seek and tag.
It all began when they were playing their third game of hide and seek, and Danny the Frog was “it”. Of course, everyone else hid. Sammy the Salamander hid under a pile of wet leaves, Wally the Squirrel hid in a hollow log, Tyler the Mouse in the vee of the big Elm tree, and Zachary the Frog hid in the pond under a big lily pad.
“… nine, ten, Ready or not here I come,” shouted Danny.
In the tree, little Tyler heard a cracking sound in the distance, but not wanting to be the first one found, he crouched deeper into his hiding spot. The other friends never heard anything. Suddenly Tyler heard a strange sound, one like he had never heard before. Then he heard a giggle, but this giggle did not sound like any of his friends. Slowly, he raised his head to peek out to see what was going on. What he saw frightened him. It was a human, and the worst kind of human, a BOY!!!
It all happened so fast! Danny was hopping around looking for his friends,
Tyler yelled to warn him, but Danny didn’t hear him. Before Danny knew what had happened, the little boy had grabbed him and shoved him into a box.
“I’ve got my science project,” yelled the boy. ”
